This policy explains what information The Open Door collects when you visit our website or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. In short: we collect very little, we never sell it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us. We only collect personal information you choose to send:
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address.
- Contact form: your name, email address, the topic you select, and your message.
- Sponsorship inquiries: your name, company, work email, budget range (optional), and your message.
Information collected automatically. We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, which pages are visited, the referring site, and general browser, device, and country information. This analytics service doesn't use cookies, and we don't use it to identify individual visitors. Like most websites, our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and request details) to operate and secure the site.
Newsletter engagement. Our newsletter is delivered through beehiiv, which records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked. We use this to understand which topics are most useful to readers.
2. How we use your information
- To send you the newsletter you subscribed to, including a welcome email.
- To respond to messages and sponsorship inquiries you send us.
- To understand what readers find useful and improve the site and newsletter.
- To keep the site secure and working properly.
- To comply with legal obligations.
5. Market data and third-party links
Our market data pages display public economic data retrieved from FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis); no personal information is sent to those sources. The site and newsletter also link to other websites, including sponsors. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, so please review their policies.
6. How long we keep information
We keep your email address for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, you stop receiving emails, and you can ask us to delete your information entirely. We keep contact and sponsorship messages as long as needed to respond and maintain a record of our correspondence.
7. Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter.
- Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by contacting us.
Depending on where you live — for example, in California or the European Economic Area — you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, such as the right to know what we collect or to object to certain uses. We'll honor those requests as required by law.
8. Children's privacy
The Open Door is intended for adults and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Security
We use reputable service providers and reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices change. When we do, we'll revise the “last updated” date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also notify subscribers by email.
